ATP Tour News The Passion of Dimitrov for Fashion
Grigor Dimitrov is widely considered by his teammates as one of the players most immersed in the fashion world. Before the US Open and New York Fashion Week (September 8-12), Atptour.com spoken with the Bulgarian about his inspirations, the cities of the tour with the best purchases to do, something he would never use and more.
Outside the court, who is your inspiration in the fashion world? I think that over the years, I always felt that I had changed my style a little.I always try to wear something that does not necessarily match me or that does not necessarily go with my personality.I go with whatever it flows. One of my favorite designers over the years has been Rick Owens.[Makes] very simple costumes, very bohemian style, very comfortable.I have always inspired me in a certain sense because in Europe we have a different climate.Winter is a bit long sometimes and [you have] autumn, so you need to use a little more layers.Over the years, I have obtained a lot of inspiration and ideas from him to combine things.I don't necessarily do it like him, but I like that kind of vibrate. But lately, honestly, it has been what I want to use.We cannot go much to restaurants or anything, so it has been very basic, very simple...We have an incredible guy, Jerry Lorenzo, who has the Fear of God brand, and I think they are getting very very well. They have many colors of the earth and things that you can combine with bright colors.I love simplicity, I love sports look, but it is sophisticated at the same time.I think it is very nice to carry something that also shows your personality a bit.
In normal times, what is your ideal outfit? Honestly, it depends on where to go and who goes with.It varies a little.Good question.I have always been a fan of the shoes, so I will start from below and go with a very smooth shoe, depending on the colors I wear.I will go with jeans and a simple large shirt. It also depends on where I go and how do I like things. But lately, since I live in Monaco that is a bit more sophisticated, I have been wearing a little more Bruno Cucinelli, very different summer vibrations, very beautiful clothes with baggy pants and a very beautiful color.I like buttons shirt and short manga.I also love hats, so I've also been using some of them.Very mixed and combined, actually. What kind of hats? I have a couple of friends who make hats. They make very cool hats with different elements in them, whether feathers, some quotes or things that I like very much.I always go with what I want at that particular moment and I try to take it out and put it in some kind of inspiration that I have.
In the ATP Tour, what is the best city to buy clothes? I have done great damage to London. It has always been a place where I know that even if I don't look for something, I will find something.Los Angeles has always been my weak point.I have a lot of places where, even if I don't want to buy anything, even if I just want to go and take a look, you will always buy something. This is how it is.The limit there is completely different.I would say London and Los Angeles, sure.New York has also been very interesting for me.I know my favorite places, so to speak, but I always try to make it more informal and not extravagant. It is more different [in New York] and I think that contemporary appearance is very important for me.Actually, it's not about going from one place to another, but about creating your own path. What is a thing you would never use and why? Probably I would never wear slippers with socks. It is a trend.I've seen it so many times that I don't think I want to use it.I see it and think: ‘Okay, great’.I just don't understand it enough, I don't think.I think it's funny. That is why I like that contemporary style more and when I see something I say: ‘that's fine, I'm never going to do that’.I probably don't do it.Is it almost like the appearance of a basketball player? Yes, yes,.Nothing against them.In them and in the athletes in general it looks good, whatever. You use your socks, you want to rest your feet. But I'm not sure you use this in an important event.

Foto: Clive Brunskill/Getty Images¿Cuál es el peor error de moda que ha cometido?Una vez que tuve una sesión hace muchos años, todavía tengo algunas fotos.I'm not going to say who, what and where, but I had one of the most horrendous outfits with which I had to take photos.I think it was very disturbing. At that moment I thought it would end and I would never use that again. There were so many different colors and nothing combined with the other and suddenly had a blue jacket with yellow pants and a green tie.I painted you a picture. Here and there to do this once, it's fine. But not for a filming.
