Clothes to be in the house and sports fashion, among the winning products in Colombiatex 2021
Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States were the countries that showed the greatest interest in acquiring Colombian garments in virtual business appointments, within the delegation of more than 200 foreign buyers that ProColombia invited to Colombiatex from the Americas 2021 digital, organized by Inexmoda.
The loungewear category (clothes to be at home) along with sportswear, UV protection fabrics, anti-fluid fabrics and technical textiles, were the products that aroused the greatest interest in the purchase intentions of the more than 200 international buyers from 21 countries who participated in virtual business appointments from January 18 to February 5, invited by ProColombia to Colombiatex de las Américas 2021 digital.
Similarly, the categories of jeanswear, sleepwear and swimwear had a great role; and the destinations that had the most participation and interest in acquiring these fashion products of Colombian origin were Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States.
“Colombian fashion continues to position itself strongly worldwide thanks to its designs, quality, delivery times and flexibility in production volumes. In joint work with Inexmoda, we will continue to support this business fabric that has already been showing signs of recovery in exports, which shows that our economic recovery plan, where we have prioritized the fashion industry, is generating positive results," said Flavia Santoro. , president of ProColombia.
One of the buyers invited by the entity to Colombiatex was Mario Guzmán, operating director of the Mexican company Ciclomanía, who was very satisfied with their virtual business meetings and highlighted the competitive advantages of the Colombian fashion sector.

“Currently we have been working with three suppliers of cycling clothing in Colombia and after the business meetings we had at the event, I think we can reach five suppliers. We see that the Colombian industry is very advanced, it has great know-how, good inputs, experience, flexibility in production volumes and tariff advantages," Guzmán described.
The businessman added that they want to open new product lines such as bikers with the Colombian supplier and that the situation of the pandemic has generated an increase in the consumption of sportswear in Mexico, for which they want to take these products to states like Nuevo Leon, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes and Yucatan.
On the other hand, Xavier Tierra, commercial manager of Phridda, an Ecuadorian fashion company, stated that “we saw an interesting supply of printing machinery, which we could buy in the long term for our garments. Our company is going from acquiring finished products to making garments, so we also see a possibility of buying fabrics and accessories from Colombia. We appreciate the good accompaniment of ProColombia in our virtual appointments”.
It is worth noting that, in 2020, fashion exports reached US$680.6 million, where the main buying countries were the United States, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil and Chile. While the departments that sold the most fashion abroad were Antioquia, Bogotá, Valle del Cauca, Atlántico, Cundinamarca, Santander, Risaralda, Norte de Santander and Caldas. While the garments most in demand abroad were fabrics and fabrics, girdles and control clothing, jeans, women's underwear and leather goods.
