There's no denying the effect a good pair of workout leggings have. Unfortunately, most of this clothing is made from plastic-derived fibers such as polyester. This means it's a good time to add more sustainable pieces to our sportswear drawer.

It is also worth learning some terms, for example Econyl (a type of nylon made from recycled plastic); as well as Tencel (a sustainably produced wood fiber). You should also look on the label to see if it contains Cupro: a delicate fiber produced from cotton waste, which helps create incredibly soft sports pieces. Some of these same fibers are used in sustainable hosiery.
Since even sportswear (even sustainably made) often contains a percentage of synthetic material (recycled or not), frequent washing can cause harmful microplastics to enter waterways, making it worth the investment in a microplastic filter, such as a Guppyfriend wash bag or Cora ball to add to your wash cycle.
