Santa Cruz, 14 outdoor shopping areas where you will find everything you are looking for
Santa Cruz offers the possibility of visiting its commercial areas, territorially delimited spaces with characteristics of supply, demand and environment, where an important part of the commercial offer of the municipality is concentrated, as well as restaurants, leisure and services.
In this way, from Añaza to Anaga, passing through Avenida Tres de Mayo, Mercado, La Salle, El Estadio and Toscal, and from Zona Centro to La Gallega, crossing Rambla de Santa Cruz, Salamanca street, Avenidas of Venezuela and Príncipes de España, and linked by a convenient public transport network that connects them to each other, is the largest "Open Commercial Zone of the Canary Islands".
In this sense, from the Santa Cruz City Council, being aware of the difficult situation that has been experienced for almost two years due to the pandemic, and that has affected all economic sectors, especially commerce, restaurants and to tourism, an extensive program of activities has been carried out during the Christmas and Three Kings dates in order to encourage shopping in the capital of Tenerife and promote local commerce.
Thus, for the CEO of Development, Alfonso Cabello, "the Christmas and Epiphany campaign is the most important for commerce, and coming from a time with so many difficulties and restrictions, this campaign made it even more complicated, That is why we have put so much sensitivity into promoting and disseminating the attractions of our commercial and restaurant fabric, also adding an extensive program of cultural and leisure activities in order to make the offer to come to Santa Cruz even more attractive, and always prioritizing safety and adhering to what the authorities have dictated in health matters”.
“Encouraging consumption responsibly, complying with regulations, but raising awareness towards buying in local businesses is what we have tried to convey with the Christmas and Three Kings campaign this year”, stressed the mayor, who added that “ We have many differentiating aspects compared to other cities, such as the climate, the large green areas available to the municipality, but also having the largest outdoor shopping area in the Canary Islands, which allows thousands of visitors and residents to enjoy our city while shopping or tasting our gastronomy”.
“These are difficult times for everyone, and from the City Council we have designed this extensive program of activities with all the love and enthusiasm so that residents and visitors can enjoy our city. We have had to adapt some of the initiatives on the march so that they could be celebrated and not miss the opportunity to have emblematic acts such as the reception of SSMM Los Reyes Magos de Oriente at the Heliodoro Rondríguez López stadium, this time without an audience, but broadcast by Televisión Canaria, or the five royal delegations that toured the municipality so that no child was left without seeing their majesties”, highlighted the mayor.
“All these actions affect all the economic sectors of the capital such as transport, logistics, as well as trade and restaurants, so having given up holding some initiatives means that many companies stop generate economy or do not hire staff," said Cabello, who stressed that "we want Santa Cruz to continue to be a city where things happen, and that will lead to an improvement in the socioeconomic situation for everyone."
“Commerce is one of the most important sectors for our city, but restoration is also”, explained the mayor, who added that “restoration directly represented 13% of all contracts signed in Santa Cruz in November , that is, of the 11,319 contracts that were signed in the capital last November, 1,295 corresponded to the catering sector, so we are facing an important economic engine of the capital”.

“Our goal is to continue giving life to the city through activities, whether promoted by public or private entities,” said Cabello, who stressed that “it is time to join forces, coordinate, pitch in and collaborate to reverse these economic and social difficulties that the pandemic is leaving us, and from the Santa Cruz City Council we will not lose the illusion of once again being one of the most important tourist destinations, as well as of being a city that has things to offer to your neighbors and visitors.
“Proof of this is the slogan chosen for this Christmas and Epiphany campaign that we have just concluded,” said Cabello, who explained that “for almost a month we have promoted local businesses through a campaign in which the message central was 'Nearby Commerce of Santa Cruz: Open to Illusion', and with which we have tried to value the thousands of establishments that are in our municipality”.
In this sense, the mayor recalled that "the campaign has focused on promoting and disseminating the attractions and differential values of our business fabric, such as friendly, specialized, and above all, close treatment", adding that “We have supported these messages on the commerce website that we launched during the confinement period, www.santacruzescomercio.com, and which is developed with two objectives: to publicize the city's commercial offer in a directory of geolocated businesses and with all the details of each establishment, as well as providing a professional space for merchants, where they will find information of interest for the management of their business”.
Currently, this commercial directory has more than 660 business records from the 14 commercial areas that make up the capital, which show establishments of a variety of types, classified into 80 categories, mainly food, electronics, fashion and services. It can be accessed from mobile devices, it allows geographic search, by texts, areas and categories, and it contains files for each business with data such as location, contact, as well as home service information, among others.
“As I mentioned before, with the campaign we wanted to promote and disseminate the attractions of our business, and that it has had a hard time in these times,” Cabello reiterated, adding that “this health and economic crisis has been Added to the inconvenience caused by the works in several commercial areas of the municipality, but which are already completed today, as is the case of Avenida Venezuela, or practically finished as is Imeldo Serís, and with which we have wanted to exemplify the change suffered in these areas and that now they have wider sidewalks or renovation of streetlights, and that have made them more modern spaces where to buy and taste the local gastronomy”.
“They are commercial areas of reference for nearby commerce, for commerce in our neighborhoods, where a wide commercial offer is brought together and where we will find textile shops, sportswear, mobile phone stores, jewelry stores, photography stores, as well as a wide gastronomic offer”, pointed out the mayor, who encouraged “visiting these commercial areas and buying and consuming in their establishments”.
Finally, Alfonso Cabello recalled that “all the details of the commercial areas of Santas Cruz, as well as the commercial directory, can be consulted at www.santacruzescomercio.com, a tool that will also allow us to plan purchases, avoid crowds and buy in our nearby trade”.
