Stingy and smart: woman saved up to 90% of her salary and bought 2 apartments in 9 years
International media reported the curious story of a Chinese woman named Wang Shenai, who a few days ago revealed to her country's TV that for years she saved 90% of her salary, leading a rather extreme lifestyle.
That has evidently paid off, as in just nine years she and her husband managed to buy two apartments in the city of Nanjing.
As detailed by the Gizmodo medium, Shenai explained that since she was little she got used to an austere lifestyle, because she grew up in a poor family.
"My mother kept money in the fridge and that made me believe that money is hard to come by," she said.
As an adult, and when she got a job, the woman began to save a large part of her emoluments. However, the big deal came when she married her husband.
At that time, both decided to save 90% of her salary, with the aim of buying an apartment for each of her children.
This savings began when they both determined to buy second-hand furniture and even pick some up off the street. Added to this is that they do not spend more than 100 yuan a year (12,000 Chilean pesos) on buying clothes.
Most of her clothes come from donations from friends or charities, she says.
“He was always happier saving money than spending it. It actually gives a sense of security,” she commented.
On the other hand, they both don't go out to dinner unless it's free. Something similar happens with vacations during the summer.
Another measure that the woman who saved 90% of her salary carried out was to buy only basic products to eat and use free coupons for public transport.
“I think it's important for women to buy property. When a woman encounters problems, her house is where she can take refuge,” she expressed.
As expected, the situation has generated criticism and favorable opinions. On the one hand, many people say that Shenai is "a far-sighted woman with a business vision", while others brand her as "stingy and extremist".
