FGR dismantled fentanyl pill laboratory in Tijuana
Through a search warrant the Attorney General's Office (FGR), through the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor's Office (FECOR) and the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), secured 22 kilos 856 grams and 6 thousand 50 tablets of fentanyl hydrochloride.
Through a statement it was reported that elements of the Tijuana municipal police located in the vicinity of the El Pípila neighborhood -one of the most populated in the municipality of Baja California-, two bags containing fentanyl and pills of the same substance.
Both bags were found on the sidewalk in front of a building, for which the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) requested a search warrant from a judge. When conducting the investigation, elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM) found inside the home the narcotic known as fentanyl, as well as various instruments to make tablets among which, two tablet-pressing machines and a mixer, a scale, a vacuum sealer and eight liters of ethyl alcohol.
Both the utensils used to manufacture the tablets and the 6,050 pills and the 22 kilos 856 grams of the narcotic were seized and made available to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), which is part of a investigation folder against whoever is responsible for the crime against health.
According to the NHI, fentanylis a strong synthetic opioid similar to morphine but between 50 and 100 times more powerful. Opioids are a class of drugs found naturally in the poppy plant; some are made directly from the plant, while others - like fentanyl - are created in laboratories, where the same chemical structure is used to make synthetic opioids.
Fentanyl is a drug that is generally prescribed to patients suffering from severe or chronic pain, however, its illegal use has become popular among drug users, currently becoming the most common drug associated with overdose deaths in the United States. In 2017, fentanyl was part of 59.8% of opioid-related deaths, compared to 14.3% in 2010.
For its part, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) has launched different operations throughout the country to control the manufacture, sale and distribution of this narcotic. Through a statement, on January 23, 2022, it was reported that the Attorney General's Office (FGR), through the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) in its Northwest Region, assured in the b>2021 approximately 11 tons of marijuana, one million fentanyl pills and 11 tons of methamphetamine among other substances.
The confiscation of the narcotics was carried out as part of investigations that the FGR itself has opened for the probable participation in various crimes committed by criminal groups that operate in said region.
During 2021, the actions of elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), Forensic Services and Federal Public Ministry (MPF) included 580 searches and 620 flagrante operatives, where around 300 kilos of cocaine were seized , 250 of fentanyl, 149 of heroin and 3 more of crystal. The arrest of more than 700 people was also reported and more than 400 vehicles and 370 properties were seized.
According to the statement from the Attorney General's Office (FGR), during the 2021 operations, more than 500,000 dollars and three and a half million pesos were also seized; more than 100 long weapons, 150 short weapons and about 46 thousand cartridges and 700 chargers.
The data presented corresponds only to the operations and seizures carried out in the northwest region of the FGR in 2021, which includes the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Sinaloa and Sonora. According to the Attorney General of the Republic, all the searches were carried out under the order of a judge before the probable commission of various crimes.
