Razer's plan to clean the oceans using a robot with artificial intelligence
- Adrián Raya
Razer, most famous for its gaming products, has announced a renewed commitment to ecology; On the occasion of Oceans Day yesterday, the company announced a collaboration with startup ClearBot to develop a robot that automatically cleans oceans and rivers.
Actually, ClearBot is not a new project, but until now it was in its early stages; His team managed to design a prototype of a robot that uses 'machine learning' b>, automatic learning, to find floating garbage and catch it. With the collaboration of Razer, that robot will evolve with the aim of creating a scalable and marketable model.
The Razer influence is evident in the new design, a sort of catamaran with aspects of a Razer mouse or laptop. The futuristic aspect is also functional, and the black color with green details could not be missing in a Razer project. In fact, at first glance it looks like an April Fool's joke, but it's real.
I will always absolutely adore the animation in Eve's ' How to Eat Life' MV. It's so beautiful. https://t.co/T9mPjONGgu

In the front, the cameras are in charge of capturing signs of garbage in the water; the robot then captures it and uses a conveyor belt to store it until it can be disposed of. In this way, it is capable of capturing up to 250 kilograms of garbage in a single cycle. Machine learning is used to distinguish trash, with a range of up to two meters even in rough water; To help with this task, the community is being asked to upload photos of trash and debris in the water, so the AI can learn to better detect it. The data obtained will be used to improve the algorithm.
Although the ClearBot base already existed, Razer's work has focused on evolving the design of this robot, to one that can be mass-produced and especially, one that is more efficient in its task. It's more than just a coat of black and green paint. In addition, it is more efficient thanks to the integrated solar panels.
This is, without a doubt, Razer's most original project, and that's saying something; but it is not the only one dedicated to the environment. The company also has the #GoGreenWithRazer project, with products featuring its mascot Sneki Snek; each unit sold helps fight deforestation, with the goal of saving one million trees by the end of the campaign.
Razer has already managed to save more than 300,000 trees in this way, and is preparing new products such as slippers to wear at home, in addition to others already available such as a stuffed animal, an eye mask , or a pillow for the head that we can use, for example, in the Razer gaming chair.
