This is how Mickelson learned to maintain his weight and forget about the 'miracle' diets
Phil Mickelson is experiencing a second youth. With his triumph in the PGA Championship, last May, he became the oldest golfer in all of history to conquer a Grande, with 50 years on his identity card and already close to blowing the sails of 51. A new opportunity offered by golf and life to the legendary athlete from San Diego in which his ability to get in shape has had a lot to do with it.
In recent times, Lefty has undergone a spectacular physical transformation, associated with significant weight loss. A set-up that is usually associated with a change in life habits, more difficult to carry out the older you get. But Mickelson, when he was approaching half a century of life, decided to forget the harmful routines and focus on a new way of enjoying day to day, forgetting about the famous 'miracle' diets to which he had resorted before.

Phil, as revealed by Dave Phillips on the Off Course podcast, struggled a lot to maintain his ideal weight when he opted for the simplest solutions to get in shape. An easy trap he fell into time and time again. "When you're that elite, you have the best, the best bottles of wine, the nicest dinners... and it's very hard to say no," said Phillips, co-founder of the Titleist Performance Institute who has worked closely with Mickelson for years. .
But for the man from San Diego, things changed radically when in 2010 he was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, caused by inflammation. Faced with the prospect of being forced to quit top-level golf early, Phil was able to find the motivation to follow a diet designed to "reset" and completely cleanse his system. A situation that, in his own words, led him down the "proper and responsible" path with regard to his health.

“We can all learn as we get older. It is very good to give yourself a tribute at a lunch or dinner, with a good wine. But you have to know what effects it has for each one. Phil now knows, he has learned when he can and when he can't, and thus has been able to stay within his ideal weight”, reveals Dave Phillips. The US Open next week will be a new challenge for Mickelson and his increasingly careful physical condition that allows him to continue competing against the thriving youth.
