Violent count in Guanajuato: crimes, shootings, executions and bags with human remains in less than 24 hours
At least nine people were killed in different events that occurred between the early hours of Monday and the morning of this Tuesday, December 7, in the state of Guanajuato.
The first alert call occurred at approximately one in the morning on Monday, when residents of the Santa Rita neighborhood, in Celaya, reported the discovery of four plastic bags with human remains on Durango street.
Local media reports detailed that it was the corpse of a man who had been dissected and his remains placed in black garbage bags, tied with industrial tape.
Hours later, another murder occurred derived from a family fight at a home on Diamante Street, in the Imperial neighborhood, in Celaya. There a man was accused of murdering his own mother, wounding his stepfather and his sister with a knife.
Neighbors told authorities that the argument began in the early hours of the morning. The couple, over 60 years old, was found in one of the rooms with several stab wounds. The man was helped but the older woman no longer had a pulse when paramedics attended to her.
The alleged aggressor escaped before the arrival of troops from the Municipal Police and the Army to protect the scene of the crime. It transpired that he had only been out of jail for a few days, after having spent three years for the crime of homicide.
In León, Mesa de Medina neighborhood, the body of a man with gunshot wounds was located inside a farm on the road known as " La Víbora ".
Around 4:00 p.m., a cyclist of approximately 18 years of age, who was circulating on the side of the train tracks in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, also in Celaya , was shot to death.
The assailants presumably traveled on a motorcycle and left a cardboard with a message signed presumably by an organized crime group next to the body.
Later, around 5:00 p.m., a subject nicknamed “ El Doritos ” was shot at when he was going to a store in the La Floresta neighborhood, in the city of León. More than eight shell casings remained at the intersection of Río Mayo and Encino streets.
An hour later, the driver of a white Honda was shot at when he was driving through the streets of the La Piscina CTM neighborhood in León . He was on Obrero Mundial street, heading towards Juan José Torres boulevard, when he was intercepted by a motorcycle meters before reaching Primero de Mayo.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was reported in serious but stable health.
Almost at the same time, two different events occurred in Celaya with only minutes of difference between one and the other. First, a man was found dead and with gunshot wounds in the Arboledas de San Rafael neighborhood, and shortly after, in Villas del Bajío V , human remains were found in garbage bags and a cardboard signed by organized crime.
In Irapuato, at seven o'clock at night, a subject was shot at by gunmen traveling on a motorcycle. Presumably the victim was outside his mother's house, in the community of San Roque. He apparently tried to protect himself inside the house, but was hit by bullets and died in the garage.
This Tuesday morning , Celaya municipal police arrested eight people , including two women, who had in their possession long weapons, drugs and a truck with a report of theft. The arrest stemmed from a report that alerted the authorities about shots fired on Lago de Chapultepec street, in the Lagos neighborhood.
Since 2018, Guanajuato has been the state with the most intentional homicides in the country derived from the territorial dispute between criminal groups, according to local authorities.
Official data establishes that, from January to September 2021, 2,655 people were murdered in the state, a figure that represents 10.4% of those registered throughout the country.
Those same figures indicate that Guanajuato has a rate of 42.47 murder victims per 100,000 inhabitants, which doubles the national average, which is 19.69 homicides per 100,000 people.
