GREAT LEAKS: KIDNAPPERS, TO BLOOD AND GUNPOWDER (3 of 5) - SinEmbargo MX
There is an optimal environment for the creation of a gang of kidnappers: the prison. The keys to support this thesis are in the dozens of files and in the police reports consulted, in the interviews that the jailers give in a low voice and in the internal diagnostic documents.
A great lineage of kidnappers has been forged in prisons or, more precisely, in the justice system and, more notoriously, through the various escapes achieved by thieves who mutated in freedom into kidnappers.
This is the case of Andrés Caletri and José Luis Sánchez Canchola, who in 1995 left the Mexico City prison with lead and blood. But they came back, not as if the prison vomited them out, rather as if it wanted them: it gives them relationships, integrates them into a new gang and allows them to orchestrate kidnappings behind bars from which criminals capable of infusing the worst of torture come out and they enter, by hook and by crook, in seemingly legal ways and also by downright illegal methods.
Because Mexican prisons, as Joaquín Guzmán Loera, El Chapo, and as will be seen below, know well, are built with imaginary walls.
THE FREEDOMS OF CANCHOLA

On February 18, 1984, with 22 years of age on top of him, he walked through the Ramos Millán neighborhood, his course. He stopped. He looked left and right and felt safe. He rested the chisel on the sheet metal of a record and gift store. He gave her a hammer blow. One more and another. He didn't open. Three police officers heard the unusual noise for the early morning and arrested him. “I do it out of necessity,” he explained.
He was sentenced to two months in prison and a fine of 900 pesos or one more day in prison. Since he was a criminal with no record, the judge proposed that he pay a fine of 4,900 pesos and 3,000 pesos more to repair the damage. El Canchola, "a thief out of necessity," paid the money without any objection and was released on May 7, 1984.
