Las Casas as an advance of Goebbels - Present and past - Libertad Digital Libertad Digital
Goebbels argued that a lie is believed the more it is bigger, and that a very repeated lie becomes true. In Las Casas we find a truly gigantic type of lie when it comes to the number of victims of Spanish atrocities, exaggerations that would simply make anyone with any sense laugh. But there is another type of Lascasian affirmation, when it comes down to concrete details, that cannot be said to be lies, without more, but possibly true accusations, but unproven and in many cases unverifiable. Obviously, no longer a judge or a serious historian, not even an ordinary journalist who does not work in yellow press, would proceed with these accusations without previously verifying them in some way.
And yet, both Las Casas' crazy statements and calculations, as well as his specific accusations, have had the honor of being believed, just like that, without further criticism or verification, by millions of people, directed in turn by ideologues and commentators very interested in the work. It seems that in this case Goebbels was right: the enormous absurdities of Las Casas have enjoyed widespread credulity; and by being repeated with no less determination by French and Protestant anti-Spanish propaganda, later Marxist, they have become official truths in many spheres.
In this matter, it is necessary to distinguish between the naive credulity of ordinary people, who do not have the time or, in general, possibilities, to verify what they read (on the other hand, there is always in the human being an inclination to believe the greatest evils of those who they consider enemies ), and the action of ideologues and propagandists, interested in promoting certain states of opinion. These present themselves as authorities on the matter, and the confidence and indignation with which they speak, if not effectively replicated, tends to be accepted as proof of veracity and knowledge.
Father Las Casas undoubtedly had an intuition, albeit a vague one, of the techniques that Goebbels and the communists would systematize centuries later (although both of them drank, it seems, from the "Creel Commission" of Use). Thus, another of the friar's concerns was to prevent the circulation of points of view contrary to his own, and he insistently pressured the public authorities to apply censorship to them. In this case we can say, with Ecclesiastes, “nothing new under the sun”.

****As an argument to defend the more than alleged prevarications of Garzón, a fool named Vicenç Navarro accuses Judge Adolfo Prego of "being an admirer of the greatest ideologue that fascism has in Spain, Pío Moa." The argument already reveals the intellectual stature of the guy and his respect for truth and justice. But let's see, old boy, if Mr. Prego admired any notable fascist, it would be you, not me.
**** Pons says (Plan Pons, vileness in seven days), referring to his party, that "those of us who are not from the eyebrow are corrupt, criminals..." Here! Like the ones on the eyebrow! And Pons adds (vileness in seven seconds) "... and Francoists." And there he is absolutely right: both those of the eyebrow and the rajoyos, sorayos and others will be corrupt and criminals but, of course, they are not Francoists. Not even Democrats, coincidentally. They are "economists."
**** You all know that the situation in the Valley of the Fallen is critical. After having closed the Valley as a tourist place, now it is also a question of preventing worship in the basilica with any excuse. The last rush of the Vice Presidency is to order the dismantling of the Piedad (sculpture weighing 150 tons) for a supposed restoration in which nobody believes. For this reason, the main door has been closed for a week and you have to access the basilica from behind, walking through some poorly lit corridors and going down ten at a time by elevator. Faced with this situation, the Association for the Defense of the Valley has recently been created de los Caídos, whose web page is www.elvalledeloscaidos.es I strongly urge you to enter it, inform yourself and become members, since they need support of all kinds and above all financial means to be able to continue the fight in defense of the Valley. Spread this message to make the Association known among all those who want to keep it. Jose Maria Manrique
