Running's clothes have long been including compression items, led by international brands, such as 2xu or Compressport in its usual catalog.Recently we presented here the analysis by Luis Sola of existing scientific studies on its benefits, little conclusive
In the same way that the cold scientific reality, today we also review the subjective sensations they produce in each corremontes, either by placebo effect or other mechanisms not yet studied. Thus, Luis faces his second part of the analysis, focused on the best -selling garments by Compressport: twin, sleeves, short mesh. Short mesh.

Compression in mountain races.(II)
Analysis and test Base Kit Compressport, by Luis Solá.
It is a clear fact that we will notice taking a look around us on the line of exit of a race, that the compressive garments enjoy increasing popularity among the Corremontes. And at the same time as popularity, the catalog of compressive garments of manufacturers has been growing, logically, similarly.
.
As in many other cases, the expansion of the compressive material responds to the usual patterns of a fashion, moving from one point to another of our social network, and relying on different forms of marketing. However, there is an important characteristic of compression that other products do not enjoy, and it is to have their origin in the treatment of certain circulatory conditions in the field of medicine: if compression helps circulation, it should therefore be usefulIn the field of sport and, in particular among the runners. In the first part of this article for Carrerasdemontana.com, we made a small review of scientific articles (published in scientific journals specialized in sports medicine, and conveniently reviewed for it),based on serious statistical experiments and analysis.
The conclusion we reach with that small bibliographic analysis is that it is still debatable that the use of this type of material improves the performance in the race, although there are indications that compression can contribute to the decrease in muscle damage. On the other hand, today, complete scientific studies are still missing on possible long -term improvements, or the possible effects of compression during a career of ultra -duty.
.
In this second part we will concentrate on the results of a thorough test on four of the products produced by the Compressport brand, one of the world's world referents in compression material.
For all products, all details have been exquisitely taken care of, using very subtle flat seams in all cases in all cases of always annoying chafing.
First sensations: The first sensations when trying these garments are comfortable: compression shows, but does not bothervertical seams) and the tissues are very pleasant to the touch ... with the exception of the silicone of the musela, about which I will talk to you a little later.
Details of the test thoroughly: for the interest that a mountain corridor can generally have in this type of garments, the characteristics that I have analyzed in the garments considered have been: - comfort, - breathability and temperature regulation, - - -durability.
.
We have also wanted to experiment on a personal level with some of the hypotheses that seem more plausible to the action of compression, particularly that of a possible reduction in muscle damage.A property that would not be negligible, both for elite runners and for popular corridors (such as the one that subscribes), for which to enjoy running without suffering injuries is more important than achieving greater competition performance.
To do this, I have significantly increased my usual volume of training per week (30%), to exceed the point where I normally begin to feel some discomfort and/or difficulties in training due to the accumulation of kilometers.Being clear that miraculous products do not exist, and that nothing replaces well programmed training, the idea would be to check first hand if the use of compression garments can somehow reduce those unwanted effects of (on) training.
I have also alternating training with compression and without compression, pointing my sensations with each of the garments, until at least 250 km with each of them.Needless to say that this type of analysis lacks all scientific rigor, and that it is only the story of a personal experience, based on the subjective sensations of the tester.
.
All tests have been performed in the mountains around Trento, in northern Italy. The city has at the bottom of a valley, about 200 meters above sea level; The mountains surrounding this valley, which have been my training field, reach 1500-2000 meters.Approximately 60% of the kilometers traveled have been on paths and forest tracks.
During the first two weeks of the test, I alternated inner mesh and fighters, with the idea of comparing both garments and their effects on the thigh.Unfortunately, the fighters were uncomfortable to me, causing me friction, which finally (after trying, without success, the musele at different heights) led me to discard the idea of moving forward with their test, although I do not doubt that other people will have positive opinionsof this garment.
.
For those who wish to try it, to say that there is a specific version for Trail Running, with details such as silicone impressions that prevents our hands from sliding when we support them on the thighs to rise strong slopes. On the other hand, the short interior mesh has turned out to be perfect in comfort matters;I concentrated, therefore, to thoroughly try the twins, the short interior mesh, and the sleeves. In the past I have had other experiences with compressive garments (fundamentally twin), with diverse results. After the thorough study carried out in recent weeks, the general impression of the three garments finally considered is very positive, and I have noticed, in the first place, a greater speed in the heating of the muscles and, secondly, a certain reductionof the muscle aches that I expected to have, caused by the increase in volume of training.
The sleeves: starting at the least obvious of the three garments, I have found the very useful sleeve game. While the effects of compression are here, in my view, irrelevant, we must appreciate that the impeccable invoice of the sleeves makes them especially comfortable. They do not move a millimeter of the site where they have been placed, they do not touch, do not squeeze (in my case), and efficiently eliminate sweat, which makes them especially useful for those mountain days in which it is not very clear if we mustUse a long sleeve garment or a short sleeve.
.
Thus, we can upload them or lower them to the dolls depending on our cold-hot sensations at all times. An important point in temperature regulation is the white color, an aspect that shows and appreciates the sun's days. Finally, interesting detail that of the hole for the bracelet clock, which will allow us to take off our sleeves without having to get our clock, although perhaps the slack is not enough to use it comfortably with some of the smartwatts of greater size in the market. The twins: with respect to the twins, it is possible to say, in the first place, that we have again before a very comfortable garment, and that they do not go down even after hours of intense training (this aspect will obviously depend on the characteristics of the leg of each corridor, and the choice of an adequate size). As for the possible benefits of this garment, in my particular case I can say that, according to the data that I have been taking, they seem to reduce muscle damage, or at least the perception that one has of it in terms of muscle pains .
According to the most accepted argument, when compressing the lower part of the leg we facilitate the irrigation of the quadriceps, which would be of special utility in long descents (this is why some runners lower the twin to the ankle, and they rise to their positionusual in the descents).
Short Interior Mesh: Finally we are going to talk about the short interior mesh.Of the three pieces analyzed is the one I know least and the one that has caught my attention.Again, an exceptionally comfortable garment, with very careful details, which transpires exceptionally well and that combines especially well with any short pants without lining.
.
As with any other piece of underwear, I was worried about possible chafing, but I have not had any problem in this regard, and I think this mesh will be a very interesting option for use in ultras. Its compressive properties have two consequences here to take into account.
On the one hand, compression in the quadriceps that, in addition, its effects on circulation, helps sustain the muscle, preventing it from moving excessively (theoretically, this bamboleo in the long run could cause small injuries). On the other, the compression in the hip would help our movements be more "elastic", avoiding some muscles and tendons outwear at certain times.
In my personal experience these properties are quite evident in those descents in which, after several hours of training, our movements begin to get out of control; On these occasions, the compression of the thigh-catering area seems to give us an additional livelihood that is welcome.
Finally, with respect to the durability of the three garments, (mesh, sleeves and twins) after having shot them by trails in which, by force, they have suffered frictions with rocks, hooks in branches and skewers, etc., the garments seem efficiently to resist efficiently thepossible damage; We must, of course, follow the washing instructions to the letter, since this type of tissues are sensitive to high temperatures and chemicals.
.
Conclusions: The Swiss company Compressport defines itself for its foundations in medical research and for working day by day with the feedback of the professionals who use their products. In this sense, force is to confess that three of the four analyzed garments have responded positively to the thorough test, and we believe that the expectations of those Corremontes fans of the compressive material will fully fulfill.
