A study published by the journal Human Reproduction confirms, with greater rigor than others previously carried out, something that was already suspected: the more the testicles breathe, the better they work.
"Men who wear boxers have higher sperm concentrations than those who wear tight briefs," the journal summarizes in a statement.

Scientists came to this conclusion thanks to a study conducted among 656 men between 2000 and 2017 in the United States.
This study "is the first to focus not only on sperm quality, as has traditionally been done, but to understand data on a multitude of indicators of testicular function, such as reproductive hormones and DNA damage in the sperm," notes Human Reproduction.

According to the study, boxer-wearers had 3-3 % more motile sperm than those who wore tighter underpants.
In addition to avoiding tight-fitting underwear, experts advise men not to wear too-tight pants, spend too much time sitting, or take too hot baths.
